John Paul College is seeking an experienced and passionate Specialist Instrumental Tutor – Contemporary Piano to join our dynamic music department focusing on Contemporary Piano and Keyboard.

Job Description

About the Role:

As a Specialist Instrumental Tutor – Contemporary Piano, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality piano instruction to students of various skill levels.
  • Provide skilled accompaniment for singers, bands, and instrumentalists across multiple genres, with strong improvisational ability in Rock and Jazz.
  • Assist students in developing strong sight-reading skills and performance techniques.
  • Arrange and transcribe music for piano, adapting pieces to fit specific performances and student needs.
  • Collaborate with the Contemporary Coordinator to support students in Rock Bands, Big Bands, and Jazz Combo groups.
  • Utilise Nord keyboards and be familiar with contemporary music technology.
  • Record piano tracks for studio recordings and demonstrate familiarity with recording software such as Sibelius, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Ableton, or Pro Tools.
  • Stay updated with emerging musical trends and integrate them into teaching and performances.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents to maintain a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Participate in College performances, concerts, and events, showcasing student achievements and enhancing the College’s musical profile.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A high level of professional proficiency in piano performance.
  • Experience playing a wide range of contemporary music styles in various settings, including concerts, events, and studio recordings.
  • Strong improvisational ability in Rock and Jazz, alongside excellent sight-reading skills.
  • The ability to arrange and transcribe music, tailoring it to suit different performance contexts.
  • Experience working with Nord keyboards and a strong understanding of contemporary ensemble structures.
  • Familiarity with studio recording processes and music software.
  • A passion for inspiring and mentoring students, fostering their growth and enthusiasm for music.
  • The ability to develop strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, creating a positive learning environment.
  • A commitment to maintaining high educational standards and contributing to the College’s thriving music culture.

Working Conditions

  • Casual role with flexible hours based on student needs, performance schedules and production needs.
  • Work may include evenings, weekends, and school holidays.
