About the Opportunity:
John Paul College is seeking a dynamic and passionate Head of Basketball & Sports Officer to join our vibrant Sport and Activities department.
This exciting casual position offers the opportunity to lead and manage all aspects of our College's primary and secondary Basketball programs while providing general administrative support to our Sport and Activities office.
Basketball is a significant sport at the College, and we're looking for an outstanding leader with expertise in coaching and strategic vision to deliver quality outcomes for all stakeholders in our Sport Program.
As our Head of Basketball & Sports Officer, you will be at the forefront of developing ethical, creative and service-oriented student-athletes.
You'll work collaboratively with the Head of Sport and Activities, coaching staff, students, parents, and community partners to create exceptional sporting experiences and opportunities for growth and achievement.
The Successful candidate can expect to be involved in:
Basketball Program Leadership:
- Leading and managing all aspects of the basketball program, including TAS, Junior TAS, club, and junior development programs
- Creating and implementing a high-quality developmental basketball program from P-12
- Supporting the College strategic plan for the sport
- Recruiting and developing coaches through appropriate training and skill development
- Planning and overseeing tournaments, including Champion Basketball School of Queensland and Australian Schools Championships
- Coaching at least one Firsts team during the TAS season
- Leading the Basketball Academy for Junior, Intermediate and Senior squads
General Sports Administration:
- Overseeing club sport administration including nominations, registrations, and venue bookings
- Coordinating District and Regional sport administration for athletics, cross country, and swimming
- Managing co-curricular colours processes and student achievement reporting
- Supporting the delivery of Interhouse, Interschool, and District/Regional carnivals
This role requires flexibility and adaptability, as you'll be supporting a dynamic department with regular competitions, tournaments, and special events throughout the academic year, including some weekend and evening commitments.
About You:
You are an enthusiastic, results-driven sports professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and values excellence in sports education.
You understand the importance of strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues, and bring professionalism, organisation, and genuine passion for basketball to all that you do.
You will hold Basketball Queensland minimum Association Coaching Accreditation (or equivalent) and demonstrate the high-quality interpersonal, coaching, and administrative skills required to deliver exemplary leadership to our basketball community.
Your knowledge, experience, and practical skills in sports program management, preferably within educational environments, will be essential in ensuring our department continues to provide outstanding opportunities for student growth and achievement.
Essential Requirements:
- Basketball Queensland minimum Association Coaching Accreditation or equivalent
- Experience coaching within schools and/or clubs to a high level
- Experience coaching representative basketball
- Current First Aid certificate (or ability to obtain one)
- Current Blue Card/Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one)
Candidates will be viewed favourably if they have:
- Proven experience in basketball with a track record in a similar role in a school environment
- Knowledge and experience in managing operations of basketball programs
- Expertise in recruiting and developing quality coaching staff
- Above average information technology skills and high attention to detail
- Demonstrated time management and organisational skills with ability to work under pressure
- Strong written communication skills and document preparation abilities
As this position involves working with children, successful applicants must be able to undertake employment screening for child-related employment, including maintaining a current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) whilst employed at the College.
