We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Business Operations to lead our financial and commercial operations with strategic vision, governance expertise, and a deep commitment to educational excellence.
This is a senior Executive leadership role will work directly with the Principal, the Executive Leadership team and Board of Directors to shape the College's financial future and operational success.
About the Role
Reporting to the Principal and serving as Company Secretary to the College Board, the Director of Business Operations oversees the full spectrum of financial, commercial, and facilities operations at John Paul College.
From leading a dedicated team to ensuring governance excellence and driving strategic growth, this role is pivotal in delivering sustainable operations that support our educational mission.
You'll work collaboratively as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and be instrumental in implementing the College's Strategic Intent and Annual Operating Plan.
This role will play a pivotal role in bringing to life the College's ambitious Master Plan 2021-2040, a comprehensive facilities development strategy that will transform our campus while preserving its cherished natural environment. Building on the success of our first major project, the Jukambi Sports Precinct, and with the commencement of Burragunn building in 2025, you'll be responsible for developing detailed capital works budgets and innovative funding plans that support the ongoing implementation of this exciting vision.
Your financial leadership and strategic planning expertise will be essential in securing the resources needed to deliver the many new facilities identified in the master plan, ensuring John Paul College continues to provide world-class educational environments that inspire learning and growth for generations to come.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Company secretarial support and corporate governance leadership
- Strategic financial planning, budgeting, and capital works management
- Executive oversight of accounting, payroll, taxation, and audit processes
- Leadership of facilities, infrastructure, and commercial operations teams
- Board meeting attendance and governance committee secretarial duties
- Risk management, compliance, and insurance oversight
- Staff mentoring, recruitment, and performance management
- Community engagement and stakeholder relationship building
Please note: This is a 5-year contract Executive Leadership position with the potential for an additional five (5) at the discretion of the Principal.
The start date for this role is negotiable with the candidate ideally being able to commence with us early 2026.

About You:
You're an accomplished finance and governance professional with proven ability to lead complex business operations in an educational or similar environment.
You understand the unique challenges of managing diverse stakeholder relationships while maintaining operational excellence and financial sustainability.
Your background will include:
- CA or CPA membership with current competencies in financial and management accounting
- Governance Institute or AICD membership with company secretarial qualifications
- Minimum 10 years post-graduate experience in financial management and corporate governance
- Demonstrated leadership and senior management capabilities
- Experience in client-facing roles with strong communication and issue resolution skills
- High-level computer literacy and exceptional attention to detail
- Commitment to supporting the College's Christian Ecumenical ethos and core values (MICE)
- Experience with government funding, compliance, and risk management is highly regarded for this role.
