About the Opportunity:
John Paul College is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Facilities Officer - Sport Surfaces & Aquatic Centre to join our vibrant community. About the Role
This hands-on role is responsible for the maintenance and operational management of the College’s hardcourt sports surfaces and Aquatic Centre. You will work closely with internal departments such as Sport, Events, and Property Services to deliver a safe, high-quality, and engaging environment for students, staff, and community users.
You will also ensure the compliance, cleanliness, and visual presentation of facilities while maintaining equipment and managing contractors. This is a critical role supporting weekend sport and events, requiring flexibility and a collaborative, service-oriented mindset.
The Key responsibilities of this role will include.
- Performing daily water testing and maintenance of the College’s Aquatic Centre in line with QLD Health guidelines
- Coordinating the setup and pack down of sports facilities and equipment for TAS fixtures, carnivals, and community events
- Liaising with sports and events staff to ensure seamless facility operations and support
- Overseeing minor maintenance tasks and working with external contractors to maintain facilities
- Managing facility safety, cleanliness, hazard reporting, and documentation
- Responding to emergencies, pool-related issues, and maintenance concerns as needed
This is a full-time position, working Tuesday to Saturday, 52 weeks per year, and includes four weeks of annual leave.
About You:
You will be a motivated, solutions-focused individual with a strong background in facilities maintenance, ideally within the sports, recreation, or aquatic sectors. You have a keen eye for detail, can manage competing priorities, and thrive in an environment that supports physical activity, community events, and student wellbeing.
Your background will include:
- Relevant experience or qualifications facility maintenance, or aquatic operations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach
- A practical knowledge of WHS standards and safe chemical handling
- Experience maintaining sports and aquatic facilities, including pool plant operations (Pool Plant Operator qualification desirable)
- A hands-on attitude with flexibility to support after-hours or weekend events
