About the Opportunity:

John Paul College is seeking applications from an experienced and passionate Guitar Tutor to join our dynamic music department from Term 3, 2026.

We have an exciting role available for a dedicated music educator who thrives in a collaborative, creative setting and loves bringing out the best in their students.

This casual role involves approximately 9 hours of lessons, and 1-2 ensembles per week, worked on Monday to Friday during term time. There is potential for additional hours of work as student enrolments increase.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality music instruction to students across a range of abilities and learning styles
  • Follow College processes for scheduling, conducting, reporting and communicating lessons
  • Supporting students in developing strong technical foundations, sight-reading proficiency, musical interpretation, and confident performance skills
  • Staying updated with emerging musical trends and integrate them into teaching and performances
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents to maintain a positive and engaging learning environment
  • Availability to supervise and oversee live performances as required
  • Assist with production logistics, including equipment setup and pack-down

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A high level of professional proficiency in guitar performance
  • A genuine commitment to high-quality teaching practice
  • Experience playing a wide range of contemporary music styles in various settings, including concerts, events, and studio recordings
  • Strong improvisational ability in Rock and Jazz, alongside excellent sight-reading skills
  • The ability to arrange and transcribe music, tailoring it to suit different performance contexts
  • Hands-on experience recording, editing, and mixing audio using industry-standard DAW software is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a workshop or studio setting
  • Proven songwriting experience, including original composition and arrangement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to foster inclusive, encouraging learning environments
  • A passion for inspiring and mentoring students, fostering their growth and enthusiasm for music
  • The ability to develop strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, creating a positive learning environment
  • A commitment to maintaining high educational standards and contributing to the College’s thriving music culture
