About the Opportunities:

John Paul College, in partnership with the QUT Faculty of Education, is proud to offer four Soaring Scholarships to final-year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education or Master of Teaching in 2027.

Valued up to $16,000 each and now including a paid practicum bursary, a Soaring Scholarship at John Paul College is so much more than a part-time role while you finish your degree.

When you join JPC as a Soaring Scholar, you gain a genuine pathway into your teaching career, embedded in a dynamic, values-led school community that is committed to your growth from day one.

The four scholarships available for a January 2027 start are:

  • Two for Primary or Early Childhood Education students
  • Two for Secondary Education students

For high-achieving QUT students, the Soaring Scholarship has also proven to be a genuine pathway to a career at JPC with a significant number of our Soaring Scholars being offered full-time teaching positions at the College following graduation.

This is more than a scholarship. It's where careers begin.

What you will do:

As a Soaring Scholar, you will be engaged across the full 2027 academic year. Your time at JPC will include:

  • One day per week during term time as a Soaring Scholarship Learning Assistant engaged with your assigned Primary or Secondary team while you complete your final year of study.
  • New Staff Induction and Professional Learning at the start of the year. Joining JPC staff from day one and for the whole program to ensure you have everything needed for success!
  • Mentoring from your classroom or subject teacher. Dedicated guidance from an experienced JPC educator and access to experienced leadership throughout the year.
  • Paid Practicum Bursary. New in 2027! Up to 20 paid days of practicum placement at JPC, supervised in line with QUT requirements.
  • Paid co-curricular opportunities. The chance to contribute to and be paid for activities beyond the classroom

If you have previously completed a placement with us, only one additional placement is available in 2027.

Benefits of a Soaring Scholarship and being a JPC Staff member:

As a Soaring Scholar, you are employed as a member of the JPC team and enjoy the same benefits as our broader staff community, including:

  • Access to the College gym, facilities and our corporate discount programs
  • Discounted school fees for dependents enrolled at JPC
  • Free Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) on your working days

About You:

We’re looking for final-year QUT students who are genuinely passionate about teaching and ready to immerse themselves in our thriving school community.

To be eligible, you will:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a permanent humanitarian visa
  • Be an international student who completed high school in Australia or an Australian curriculum overseas
  • Be enrolled full-time at QUT in a Bachelor of Education or Master of Teaching and set to graduate in December 2027
  • Have a GPA of 5.00 or higher, with no failed units
  • Have passed the ACER LANTITE (Literacy & Numeracy Test)
  • Demonstrate strong academic and non-academic capabilities
  • Be eligible for teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers upon graduation.

You’ll bring enthusiasm, a commitment to professional growth, and a genuine desire to contribute to student learning and wellbeing at JPC.

As this program involves working directly with children on campus, all successful applicants must hold a current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) prior to commencing.
